Tennessee residents who reside in Fayette, Tipton, Lauderdale or Shelby counties are required to file for unemployment insurance benefits by visiting their local office. To locate the office nearest you, click here. Claimants who live in non-listed counties are required to file online or by phone exclusively. The state of Tennessee distributes unemployment insurance benefits via paper check after an initial waiting week for which no benefits are paid.
